(ENG)PhD thesis - main assumptionsMy PhD thesis is based on an artistic project entitled Silence, serenity, emptiness – invites, entices, calls. A painting as a film frame, which comprises three canvas paintings and three matching videos. The canvas paintings blend with the moving pictures, that is the animations projected on them.
The painting is an integral part of the animation and vice versa. Two works created with the use of different techniques/media become one. The first part of my artistic project is an oil painting on canvas. The starting point was a landscape, a continuation of my previous works in which I refer to it more or less directly. The treatment of the landscape is synthetic, devoid of any redundant details such as plants, birds, insects or architecture. It is slightly mysterious, derelict, without any trace of human presence. Thus, the created works verge on realism and abstraction. The painting layer is blurred and devoid of clear-cut silhouettes, the landscape is nebulous. The application of paint is soft, multi-layered, with the use of glazing. The video that is projected onto the painting becomes its another layer, thus changing the tools but not my way of thinking of the picture. The picture in animation is still slightly blurred and the transparent glazing have their digital counterpart, that is the layers created with the use of Adobe After Filters with various degrees of transparency. The background is a picture abandoned at a certain stage of creation. A full interpretation of the message takes place when the video is projected onto the painting. The painting is a film frame that is not transient but is its constant element which undergoes specific transformations, however, it never disappears. The project is accompanied by original narration. The story starts with paintings, which provide the setting, and is completed with animation that depicts the reality in a more or less explicit way. The plot has a simple and open form. None of the presented stories imposes a ready-made interpretation. The project is complemented with music selected individually for each animation, which in the work entitled Forsaken forest has been enriched with sounds of nature such as the wind, rustle of trees, sounds of birds, buzzing of insects etc. |
Obraz stanowi integralną część animacji, a animacja integralną część obrazu. Są to warstwy tworzone w programie Adobe After Effects, o różnym poziomie transparentności ( krycia). Fabułę cechuje prostota i otwarta forma. Żadna z historii nie daje jasnych odpowiedzi, nie narzuca gotowych rozwiązań interpretacyjnych. Całość projektu dopełnia muzyka, dobrana oddzielnie do każdej animacji, która dodatkowo w pracy Forsaken forest została wzbogacona dźwiękami natury: wiatr, szum drzew, dźwięki ptaków, bzyczenie owadów itp. |
